How to Avoid Connecticut Halloween Accidents

Posted by Richard P. Hastings | Oct 27, 2016 | 0 Comments

Halloween is approaching and it is a night when, unfortunately, a number of pedestrian accidents will occur because of the fact that there are so many children out on the roadways that are trick-or-treating so it is important to review a number of safety tips to help prevent some type of Connecticut Halloween accident. By the time children go out to trick-or-treat it will be dark, there may be leaves on sidewalks or in roadways that hide the defective conditions and many teenagers, who have limited driving experience, will be driving on our roadways. Some young people will be engaging in mischief making and may be running from place to place without properly employing good safety procedures. So what are some things that parents can do to help safeguard their children on Halloween night:

It is a good idea to have an adult accompany children under 12 years of age so that the risk of injury is reduced with adult supervision. If children are not going to go out with adult supervision then these children should stay in familiar areas that are well lit and should trick-or-treat with others;

Please remind your children to watch for cars, always walk on sidewalks or facing traffic when there are no sidewalks, use crosswalks, limit the use of electronic devices; cross at street corners and always look to the left and then right and then left again before crossing;

It is a good idea for children to wear some type of reflective clothing and to carry a flashlight;

It is preferable to use face paint instead of a mask which can sometimes obstruct a child's vision and increase the risk of some type of accident;

Individuals should always be very attentive to their surroundings and should look at where they are walking;

Parents and teens who are driving should slow down, eliminate distractions inside of their vehicle, anticipate children darting out in the street, and be extra careful in driving during this very active and somewhat dangerous night;

Lastly, especially this year, it would be a very good idea to avoid wearing angry clown costumes as certain police departments have indicated that people who wear these costumes, for the purposes of causing some type of disturbance, will be arrested.

Halloween should be a night when children go out and have fun. The risk of either a pedestrian or a driver being involved in some type of an accident are greatly increased during this very active night. Most of these activities occur between 5:30 and 9:30 PM so it is extremely important that you be on heightened alert as to any type of hazards that may exist during this time period. If you or someone you know has been injured in any type of an Connecticut Halloween Accident, or at any other time, it is important that an immediate investigation be conducted to determine the cause of the accident.
