Last week, a 16-year-old driver hit and killed a 62-year-old man with car he had stolen from his mother earlier that day.
The teen was speeding when he crashed into Ivan Rajcoomar, a maintenance worker. The victim was retrieving tools from his parked car at the time of the accident. He was pronounced dead at Waterbury Hospital.
The teen tried to flee the scene but the vehicle was too damaged to get very far. The teen and a passenger attempted to escape on foot, but were caught and detained by local residents.
The teen was on probation at the time and his probation has since been revoked. The teen was charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, evading responsibility and motor vehicle charges. No other information about him is being released because of his age.
