This Monday morning, October 8, 2012, just before noon, a head-on collision at the intersection of North Ave./Route 1 and France Street resulted in the hospitalization of eight people at Norwalk Hospital.
The two vehicles were both SUV's and sustained such serious damage that both drivers and the passenger in the Honda had to be pulled from the vehicles using the "jaws-of-life" pneumatic cutting machine. Both drivers were seriously injured.
The crash happened when the female operator of a 2011 Honda Pilot was westbound on Westport Avenue and heading toward East Avenue down a steep hill when she lost consciousness. The front seat passenger grabbed the steering wheel and attempted to regain control of the vehicle. However, she was unsuccessful, and the Honda veered into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on with a Dodge Caravan.
There were six people in the Honda and two in the Caravan, all of whom were transported by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital.
