Last Friday, a 23-year-old Greenwich man was struck by a vehicle while crossing West Putnam Avenue at Western Junior Highway at about 12:15 a.m. The vehicle left the scene of the accident without offering aid to the victim. The unidentified victim was walking home after being out with friends when he was struck by the Volkswagen sedan.
The driver, Matthew Jay Meyers, 18, of 5 Legendry Circle, Rye Brook, NY, is accused of leaving the crash scene. He returned a short time later and was arrested by police on a variety of charges including second-degree assault with a motor vehicle while intoxicated; DWI (Under 21); possession of marijuana under 1/2 ounce; possession of drug paraphernalia; evading responsibility; traveling unreasonably fast, and operating a motor vehicle without proper endorsement.
Myers is scheduled to appear Aug. 10 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
